EARLY DAYS

I purchased Guyland on June 16, 1993. At that time it was known as Ida island and is comprised of a main island of 1.5 acres, and three islets which I christened Guylets.

At the time of purchase, Guyland was uninhabited but for a loon that nested on the north shore of the main island and who departed about three years later, concluding I believe, that one loon on the island was quite enough.

Guyland is the most easterly island, of the seven islands in Lake Ramsey, which until 2001 was listed by the Guinness Book of World Records, as the world's largest lake located entirely within the boundaries of a single city.

Ramsey Lake has a surface area of 1958 acres and a maximum depth of 67 feet. It has a shore length of 21.1 miles (34 km).

The Guylet to the south east of the main island was renamed La Desirade as it put me in mind of an island so named in the French West Indies which is part of Guadaloupe.

It is currently known as Sandhu Island. More on this below.

The Guylet to the south west I named Saba Rock because it reminded me of a small island in the British Virgin Islands which is so named and is principally occupied by a bar.  Saba Rock proudly flies the Canadian flag.

It also goes by the name GSI but you will need the guided tour for more on that.

The Guylet to the north I named Lost Island for the fact that it only appears in the dog days of summer when the water level of Ramsey Lake (formally known as Lost Lake) sufficiently recedes.

The entire archipelago can be seen from the air on a clear day.

SANDHU ISLAND

In the summer of 2019 I hired a young man named Ranveer Singh Sandhu to help me with the upkeep of Guyland. He came from a farm in Punjab and was eager; intelligent; and hard-working. I liked him a lot.

At the end of the summer he indicated that he was going back to his village in India to visit his parents and would I be interested in accompanying him. Before the words left his lips I was packing. He showed me around Punjab and took me for a visit to his parent’s home in Bhudi Mari which for me was a trip of a lifetime.

Me and Ranveer. I’m the one on the right.

I renamed the island in his honour.

The main camp which in many respects resembles a travel trailer lovingly known as the Golden Falcon.

The Golden Falcon can  accommodate up to six relatives or six very good friends.

As Jimmy Buffett would say – how it got here I haven't a clue.

I am told that when it was delivered on March 22, 1996 that Adam hid under his bed probably lamenting another one of his father's harebrained ideas.

The Wood Cover

The next addition was the Wood Cover which provides shelter for the fire wood used at the Fire Pit. Any resemblance to a deck is purely coincidental.

The Trailer Cover was also added to the Golden Falcon in April 2018. Any resemblance to a roof over the deck is also entirely coincidental.
